8 Days – Best Of Garden Route

Sandwiched between the Outeniqua Mountains and the glistening Indian Ocean, is a lush 200km stretch of coastal “Garden of Eden”, providing one of the world’s most spectacular drives.

Typically, visitors station themselves either in Knysna (complete with its scenic lagoon) or Plettenberg Bay (famous for its excellent beaches) – and then spend a few days exploring the diverse number of the many surrounding attractions.

Day2-TRAVEL FROM CAPE TOWN TO OUDTSHOORN via ROUTE 62

Oudtshoorn is famous for its ostriches and the magnificent Cango Caves. Located along the renowned Route 62, which takes motorists past inspiring sights, Oudtshoorn is known as the Ostrich Capital of the World: these huge birds are almost as common as people in this town. Besides the ostriches, their wonderful feathers and the ostrich meat they provide, Oudtshoorn also boasts the spectacular Cango Caves. These Cango Caves are the largest show cave system in Africa, permeating with sparkling stalactites and stalagmites and captivating rock formations.

Depart Cape Town and travel along Route 62. A casual suggestion made by the neighbour, is how the famous pub in the Little Karoo known as “Ronnie’s Sex Shop” got its name. A small bar, with its provocative graffiti title is a popular, colourful stop on Route 62 with both locals and international visitors.
Continue to Oudtshoorn – the ‘feather capital’ of the world, arriving in time for an ostrich tour. Have lunch at the ostrich farm and enjoy a scrumptious Ostrich Steak in the set menu.

Overnight:  Oudtshoorn (Breakfast / Lunch)

Day 3-TRAVEL FROM OUDTSHOORN TO KNYSNA via OUTINIQUA PASS

Sandwiched between the Outeniqua Mountains and the glistening Indian Ocean, is a lush 200km stretch of coastal “Garden of Eden”, providing one of the world’s most spectacular drives. Typically visitors station themselves either in Knysna (complete with its scenic lagoon) or Plettenberg Bay (famous for its excellent beaches) – and then the visitors spend a few days exploring the diverse number of many surrounding attractions. Whether you are seeking pristine, uncrowded white-sand beaches, world-class golf courses, ancient forests, renowned surf spots, extraordinary nature reserves, excellent hiking opportunities or exhilarating outdoor adventures such as bungee jumping or zip-lining, the Garden Route has it all.

Knynsa lies between the Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean and is surrounded by an ever-green world-renowned Knysna forest. Knysna offers a wealth of activities for each and every visitor. A beautiful lagoon and more than 8 beaches provide opportunities to swim, surf, canoe, yacht, jet-ski, boat, fish, walk on soft sand and take ferry rides. Various markets offer organic goods, delicious foods, indigenous plants and a social atmosphere. Mountains, valleys, lakes, forests and streams are also all to be explored. There is a valid reason why this region is known as the “Garden of Eden”! And of course, the area is famous for the Knysna Heads and the ever so delicious Knysna oysters.

Enjoy a morning tour of the Cango Caves – one of the natural wonders of the world.
Continue via the Outeniqua Pass to the lagoon side town of Knysna – the gem of the Garden Route.

Enjoy some time at leisure at the Knysna Waterfront in the afternoon.

Discover, Experience and Explore a world of diversity in one Park. Now the third largest national park in South Africa, Addo Elephant National Park has expanded and also includes a wide range of biodiversity, landscapes, fauna and flora. Addo Elephant National Park lies in the malaria-free Sundays River valley in the Eastern Cape, just over an hour’s drive from Port Elizabeth. More recently the Addo Elephant National Park has expanded to become the only park in the world to lay claim to Africa’s ‘Big 7’ – elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, leopard, southern right whale and great white shark. It has done this by expanding along the coast from the Sundays River mouth towards Alexandria (South Africa) and by adding an offshore marine reserve that includes St Croix Island and Bird Island, which are essential breeding grounds for penguins and gannets. St Croix has the largest African penguin colony in the world.

Today we depart the coastal town of Plettenberg Bay and head into the Addo Elephant National Park for a 2.5-hour safari with the tour bus in search of The Big 5 or Big 7 (if you lucky).

You also have the opportunity to do a 2.5-hour safari in an open 4×4 all-terrain vehicle (Optional at an additional cost).
